March is Women's History Month and we're celebrating the legacy of women cheesemakers and cheese experts in the American artisan cheese industry.  Since the start of America, women have played a key role in artisan cheesemaking.  

In this cheese package, we're highlighting three beautiful cheeses from women cheesemakers from Redhead Creamery in Minnesota, Lakin's Gorges in Maine, and Boston Post Creamery in Vermont.  We've paired heritage accompaniments that work wonderfully with the cheeses.

Lakin's Gorges Rockweed Bloomy Rind, 6oz                             

    This award-winning bloomy rind contains a ribbon of bladderwrack seaweed in the center. It is both briny and creamy, and has been awarded the Silver Medal 2019 Big E Cheese Competition, as well as Yankee Magazine Editor's Choice Top 10 Foods in New England, November 2019.

      Redhead Creamery Lucky Linda Clothbound Cheddar, 6oz   
        Modeled after traditional farmstead clothbound cheddars, this is an award-winning, robust, full-bodied cheddar that pairs excellently with a dark ale.  Earthy, chocolatey, and nutty all-at-once.
          Milk: Pasteurized Cow
          Rennet: Veal Rennet (Not Vegetarian
          Age: 6+ months

          Boston Post Creamery Gisele, 4oz

            Award-winning alpine-style cheese washed with a spiced apple cider named after the family's mother, Gisele.  Nutty, crystalline, delicious.

            Milk: Pasteurized Cow and Goat Milk
            Rennet: Microbial Rennet
            Age: 3 to 5 months

            Olina's Crackers, 3.5 oz

              These deliciously thin crackers are made in Australia, from wheat flower and a touch of umami-rich cheese, making them an excellent match for your at-home cheese tasting experience.

              About the Women Cheesemakers

              Lakin's Gorges Cheese is run by Head Cheesemaker and Owner Allison Lakin on East Forty Farm in Waldoboro, Maine.  Her cow milk cheeses are distinctly artisan and small-batch, and she's been committed to the craft since 2011.

              Redhead Creamery's award-winning cheese is made by a young - you guessed it - redhead! Based in Minnesota on a dairy farm, head cheesemaker and founder Alise Sjostrom is inspired by traditional cow milk cheese categories of brie, clothbound cheddar, and a semi-soft washed tomme but brings a truly American flair to the flavor profile and texture.

              Boston Post Dairy makes award-winning goat and cow milk cheese in Enosburg Falls, Vermont. The farm is owned and operated by Robert and Gisele Gervais and their three daughters Anne, Theresa and Susan.

              Long description of optional accompaniments

              Milène Jardine 70% Dark Chocolate

              New York Times featured chocolatier Milène Jardine makes a dark chocolate bar rich in cocoa butter resulting a smooth, full-bodied chocolate that pairs excellently with cheese.  Made with fruity Peruvian beans and toasty notes from Ecuador’s Cacao Arriba the blend leaves you with a balanced taste of dried fruit and sweet spices. Pair with a delicate Bordeaux like Chateau Viaud-Laland, Lalande de Pomerol (2014) and the Lucky Linda Cheddar. The rich and creamy texture of the cheese paired with the dark chocolate, and long finish of the Bordeaux make an indulgent combination.

              Dequmana Mixed Olives, With Pits

              The Mixed Olives with Herbs is a perfect combination of hojiblanca, gordal, cuquillo, and arbequina olives, herbs and natural red pepper following a traditional recipe used in Andalucian homes each year upon the arrival of the harvest.

              Soft Shell Shakhurbai Almonds

              An ancient heirloom from Afghanistan, Shakhurbai almonds are one of the world’s forgotten superfoods. Almonds in the Shakhurbai family have a sweet, nutty flavor. Sorted by hand by Ziba in Kabul, they are higher in protein than their California counterparts. The Shakhurbai almond is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients, Vitamin E, and Magnesium. Ziba dry roasts (without oil) and dusts them with Afghan Badakhshan salt, making them the perfect healthy snack.

              Lady Edison Sliced Country Ham

              The epitome of funk and a shining example of American terroir. Dry cured, this extremely marbled ham is a 3 way heritage cross between Berkshire, Chester White, and Duroc. Pasture-raised in North Carolina without antibiotics or hormones from Animal welfare approved farmers and cured & aged for 12-18 months by Rufus Brown. The result? Flawless flavor rivaling the finest Italian and Spanish cured hams.
