A Peek into Upcoming Cheesemaker Shipments

Ships July 11th, 2024: Carr Valley Cheese

Owned and operated by the Cook family, Carr Valley Cheese Company is over one-hundred years old. Nestled amongst the rolling hills and lush pastures of central Wisconsin, they remain one of Wisconsin's traditional cheese plants, famous for making cheese the old-fashioned way!

Carr Valley Cheese has won numerous awards over the years and continues to offer delicious and unique Wisconsin Cheeses.

Ships November 18th, 2024: Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese

When Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company was founded in 2000, they already had the most important part. Their dairy farm has always been known for making the freshest, highest quality milk. Their family’s herd of Holsteins were all raised from birth right on the property, giving them complete quality control from start to finish. Their first creamery was, and still is, right next to the milking parlor. In 2018, to fulfill the increasing demand for our award-winning products, they proudly opened a second production facility in the nearby town of Petaluma.

Today Original Blue, their raw milk cheese, continues to be made on the farm in Point Reyes, exclusively from the milk of our own Holsteins. Their pasteurized cheeses, Toma, Bay Blue, Gouda and Quinta, are handcrafted in Petaluma, where they source milk from CA dairies who share in their sustainable farming philosophies and match their highest standards for milk quality.

Ships December 16th, 2024 Shipment: Sweet Grass Dairy

After dairying conventionally for 15 years, Al and Desiree Wehner switched their farming method to an intensive grazing management farming style in 1993. In less than a year, they knew that they had discovered a better way to farm where “cows could be cows” and do what nature intended - eat grass! After a couple of years of Desiree making cheese out of their family kitchen, Sweet Grass Dairy was born in 2000. It was her goal to highlight the delicious, grass-based milk that their cows were producing through a range of handcrafted cheeses. They quickly realized that she needed help, so they invited their daughter, Jessica, and son-in-law, Jeremy Little, to join the family creamery. Al and Desiree believe in giving opportunities, so they were thrilled when Jeremy and Jessica wanted to purchase the cheesemaking part of the business in 2005. The Littles have continued to grow Sweet Grass Dairy over the years by expanding the distribution of their cheeses nationally and opening a restaurant in downtown Thomasville. Jeremy and Jessica have raised 4 boys, received over 30 national and international awards for their cheeses, and remained loyal to the vision of cultivating an inspired American food culture. They have done this by handcrafting the most flavorful and high quality cheeses possible from the milk of healthy, barn-free cows grazing on grass grown year round under the Georgia sun.

Ships March 10th, 2025: Capriole Goat Cheese

Capriole Goat Cheese is an artisan goat cheese producer in Greenville, Indiana. Founded in 1988, Capriole is one of the oldest and most award-winning goat cheese producers in the United States.

What is Artisan Cheese?

Artisan Cheese - According to the American Cheese Society, "artisan or artisanal implies that a cheese is produced primarily by hand, in small batches, with particular attention paid to the tradition of the cheesemaker’s art, and thus using as little mechanization as possible in the production of the cheese."

Over the past decade, the American Artisan cheese industry has been recognized internationally for its quality and integrity. Small to medium-scale artisan cheesemakers have a core set of values - high-quality milk makes incredible cheese, and high quality land and animal management makes for incredible milk. In our current industrial agriculture system, committing to these core values requires long hours of hard work and an acute attention to detail.

This subscription directly supports American Artisan Cheesemakers, and the continual diversification of our food system.

Cheese board made Thanksgiving

Served the Lakins Gorges cheese from my November subscription before our Thanksgiving feast. It was by far the best part of the whole meal. Everyone raved about it! This isn’t cheese you can find in a grocery store or even specialty shop. Amazing, different and yet accessible and delicious.
